TCPI Strengthens Its Fleet with New Tug Boats

29 January 2026

Sibu, 12 January 2026 – PT Transcoal Pacific Tbk (TCPI), in collaboration with Tuong Aik Shipyard Sdn.Bhd,. as the shipyard, held a ceremonial handover of Tug Boat SML 103 and the launching of Tug Boat SML 105 on 12 January 2026 in Sibu, Sarawak, Malaysia.

The building of these two new tug boats forms part of the first phase of TCPI’s plan, together with its subsidiaries, to develop a total of 21 tug boats at the said shipyard. To date, there remain 19 additional tug boats scheduled to be completed gradually over the coming years.

The development of these vessels is not merely an addition to the fleet, but represents a strategic and essential initiative for TCPI and its subsidiaries. This step reaffirms the Company’s ongoing commitment to enhancing operational capacity, service reliability, and fleet safety and efficiency standards in support of maritime and logistics activities wherever required. Furthermore, this initiative reflects the Company’s vision to grow sustainably and remain adaptive to the evolving needs of the industry.

The ceremony was also attended by the Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing, and Local Government II of Sarawak, Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee, along with the management teams of Tuong Aik Shipyard Sdn.Bhd,. and TCPI.

From a technical perspective, Tug Boat SML 103 and Tug Boat SML 105 have met the Near Coastal Voyage (NCV) classification, enabling the vessels to operate on short-distance coastal routes as well as international voyages of up to 500 nautical miles from the coastline. In addition, the vessels are equipped with a hydraulic winch-based towing system, a stable hull design, and improved crew accommodation facilities, providing added value in terms of safety, comfort, and optimal operational performance.

“On this occasion, we would like to express our highest appreciation and gratitude to the Board of Directors, Management, and Leadership of Tuong Aik Shipyard Sdn. Bhd., MT Pacific Corporations Pte. Ltd., Inco Trading & Services Pte. Ltd., the Designers and Naval Architects, Class NK Surveyors, as well as all related parties who have contributed optimally. Thanks to the cooperation and dedication of all parties involved, the handover of Tug Boat SML 103 and the launching of Tug Boat SML 105 were successfully carried out as planned,” said Denry Raymond Lelo, CEO of Group TEL.

This collaboration further strengthens the strategic partnership between the Company and Tuong Aik Shipyard Sdn. Bhd., which has been established since 2017. Going forward, it is expected that this partnership will continue to grow sustainably, further enhancing synergy among the parties and contributing positively to the Company’s operational performance.

“We hope that this fleet will be operated with the highest regard for safety standards, regulatory compliance, efficiency, and sustainability, thereby delivering clear benefits to the Company and its stakeholders,” said Achmad Sutjipto, President Commissioner of TCPI, in his remarks.
