Kolaka & Wolo, January 28–29, 2026 – PT Transcoal Pacific Tbk & Group once again reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable shipping safety and maritime risk governance by organizing the third phase of its “Long Term Agreement” (LTA) program under the theme “Market Visit Site Wolo, Operational Risk and Can Test Practices.” The event featured knowledge-sharing sessions, a fleet visit, and hands-on can test practices on nickel cargo onboard a vessel. This agenda marked an important milestone as the first direct collaboration in Indonesia between the shipping industry and the insurance industry in reviewing operational risks firsthand aboard a Bulk Carrier vessel, along with preventive risk measures.
1. Knowledge Synergy: Nickel Cargo Risk Management and Mitigation
The first day was opened by Mr. Budiman Kostaman, Chief Strategy Officer (CSO), who emphasized the urgency of implementing the IMSBC Code in handling hazardous cargo, particularly nickel cargo. The technical discussions were further enriched with presentations on the Site WOLO business process, HSE aspects, and a risk management review from the perspective of professional surveyors from PT Asuka Bahari Nusantara (ABN).
The event was attended by strategic partners, including:
-
Broker: PT BGIB Insurance Broker
-
Surveyor: PT Asuka Bahari Nusantara
-
Insurance Panel: Tugu Insurance, Jasindo, Askrindo, Tripakarta, and Jasarahaja Putera
2. Field Experience: Fleet Visit and Nickel Cargo Can Test Practice During Loading Process
Participants were invited to directly observe loading activities on two types of vessels owned by PT Transcoal Pacific Tbk: a Loading Tug & Barge at CNI Jetty, as well as a visit to MV Aliyah Pratama. On board, insurance partners had the opportunity to witness the loading process firsthand and practice the can test procedure—testing the moisture content of nickel cargo to ensure safe loading conditions. Accompanied by surveyors from PT Boyd Marine Consultant, participants were able to distinguish between nickel characteristics that meet safety standards and those that pose a high risk of liquefaction.
3. Building a Transparent Risk Culture
The second day focused on a visit to MV Queen Aliyah, where participants engaged in direct discussions with the ship’s crew regarding the implementation of frontline risk controls. They were also given a comprehensive tour of the vessel to gain a holistic understanding of operational risks. The event concluded with a wrapping session and a barbecue night with the ship’s crew and Site Wolo employees, symbolizing appreciation and strengthening emotional bonds between management, market partners, and operational frontliners.
Through this initiative, PT Transcoal Pacific Tbk & Group reinforces its commitment to sustaining the shipping and insurance industries through more transparent, collaborative, and long-term-oriented risk governance.
